The London rail network is the oldest having opened in 1863 and
also
is largest with 394 Kilometres
. the second largest system in Paris with 199 kilometres
it is only about the half size of London's underground . However
, it serves more people than London rail networks per year.
Regarding Tokyo underground , it is third in terms of size but it is easily used by 1927 million people annually.
Of the newer underground networks , the Washington DC underground railways are the most extensive , with 126 kilometres
of route , compared to 11 kilometres
of Kyoto and 28 kilometres
of Los Angeles .
In conclusion, the latest railway systems serve fewer passengers than the oldest each year,due to
the large gap between the kilometres
