Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to you to enquire about the recent advert published in the local newspaper requiring voluntary workers.
Although
I am a student studying at university, as I am on my summer vacation I have been seeking a similar opportunity, which would be beneficial for me in many ways including that I would be able to add the voluntary work onto my resume for future reference. I would believe that my knowledge in documentation archival and database management would be of use if you are willing to take me, and at the same time as I am very keen on learning history, I would
also
enjoy the same. Currently, as I mentioned I am on my summer vacation
thus
, I am available for work for the next 6 weeks from Monday to Friday at the usual operating hours of the museum. I would appreciate it if you would consider me as a candidate for the said vacancy. Yours sincerely, Sam Donald.

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
