The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
The two line graphs illustrate how many households have owned electrical appliances and how much time has been spent on doing housework including washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning in one country during a century from 1920 to 2019.
Overall
, what stands out from the graphs is that the owning of electrical instruments had an upward trend , however
, the number of hours
per week spent on doing household chores was reversed.
Looking at the details, a significant increase in the ownership
of refrigerators was observed; from no users in 1920 to the level that all households had in 1980, since then
the stable status of 100% ownership
was recorded. The vacuum cleaner ownership
trend enjoyed a steady rise from 30% in 1920 to 100% in 2000, then
it remained unchanged till the end of the period. It is worth mentioning that in 1960 owning the vacuum cleaner overtook the washing machines. Despite the popularity of washing machines among other appliances in 1920 with 40% ownership
, it did not grow like the others. It had a gradual improvement and reached almost 70% in 2019, except for a dip in 1980.
The amount of time spent on doing housework showed a reverse relationship with the ownership
of electrical appliances. A steep decrease from 50 hours
per week in 1920 to nearly 10 hours
in 1980 was observed. Having 20 years of stability from 1980 to 2000, a slight drop to 10 hours
was recorded during the last
twenty years.Submitted by zshahhosein on
