You work in an international company. You need to take some time off work. Write a letter to your employer. In your letter:  explain why you need this time off  give details of when you want this time off  say who can do your work when you are away

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to request you a time off because of my family issues. My father is a heart patient and he had a stunt surgery in 2022. A few days ago he was hospitalized for a routine check-up and doctors found a major blockage in his veins and recommended an open-heart surgery. There is no one in the house to take care of my father and help him do his chores. He needs urgent care and I need at least a month off to take things back on track. The surgery has been scheduled for 5th August and I will leave on the 3rd to be there before that. I request you to give me one month off from 2nd August to 3rd of September. I assure you that I will complete all my pending work and will give my clients to Rohit for assistance.
Furthermore
, I will be in touch with him and will get regular updates about the company's work so that it will not halt regular transitions. I will reassure you that I will be back on my regular operations on time and will not exceed the given time off. Thank you for your understanding in
this
critical matter.

task achievement
Your letter generally provides a clear and sufficient explanation of your need for time off, the duration, and a plan for coverage during your absence. However, consider being a bit more concise and to-the-point to enhance clarity and effectiveness.
coherence cohesion
The letter has a logical structure that makes it easy to follow. However, some sentences could be tightened for better clarity. For example, instead of saying 'I request you to give me one month off from 2nd August to 3rd of September,' you could say 'I request one month off from 2nd August to 3rd September.'
task achievement
You clearly stated the reason for needing the time off, the dates needed, and an effective plan for who will cover your responsibilities in your absence. This ensures you have met the task requirements well.
coherence cohesion
Your letter opens and closes in a polite and respectful manner, which is suitable for professional correspondence.
coherence cohesion
Each paragraph addresses a specific point, such as the reason for the leave, the dates, and the handling of duties, making the letter easy to follow.

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
