Dear Emma, I hope you are doing well. I wanted to take a moment to express my sincerest apologies for missing your birthday party
last
weekend. Unfortunately, I had an unexpected issue that required my immediate attention, and I was unable to attend at the
last
minute. I understand it was your important day and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience my absence caused. A day before your birthday, my washroom pipe burst and my apartment filled with water and ruined my whole furniture and electronic items that's why I need to call the repair team to get
this
fixed. They wanted more time to get it fixed.
This
whole scene insisted, cancel my plan to attend your most special day. To make it up to you, I would like to take you out for a special dinner. Please let me know when you are free, and we can arrange something soon, I hope you had a wonderful time and again my apologies for not being there. Looking forward to catching up soon. Yours lovingly, Alex

Use a variety of complex and simple sentences

You should use complex sentences in your writing, but it does not mean that you should try to make all of our sentences complex.

‘Complex’ sentences are not actually very complex; they are just two or more simple sentences put together. Putting them together makes the essay more coherent and cohesive.

Examples:

I really want to study but I’m too tired.

I wore a warm coat because the weather was cold.

If action is not taken soon on climate change, global warming will get worse.
