Small shops in towns and villages are closing and are being replaced by big stores. Do you think it is a good or a bad trend? Explain your opinion.

The recent expansion of big stores in the past ten years has overwhelmingly dominated global market,
such
as David Jones and Myer. Many small individual shops, especially in small towns and villages, are difficult to survive, due to the shortage of customer source. In my opinion,
this
trend could be beneficial for the local economic growth in the short term.
However
, the disappearance of individual shops is harmful for the development of local
culture
in the long run. It is believed that most of the customers prefer to shop at big stores that have

This
can be attributed to the fact that big stores possess more powerful product resources, so that the prices they are offering are more competitive.
Thus

growth.
This
can be reflected by providing more job opportunities, and increasing its surrounding housing price. On the other hands, the rise of big shops, which occupies a larger proportion of

This
is particularly true in some developing countries,
such
as China, where foreign investments are believed to account for a large proportion of its economy. Most of the products that small shops sell are strongly relying on the local

For example
, a shop that sells traditional Chinese handmade furniture may loss their creativity facing the challenges from IKEA.
Therefore
, in order to preserve the local
culture
and creativity, it is essential for government to restrict the expansion of big stores. Above all, the economical effects that big stores bring are believed to be beneficial for

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
