Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The male to female ratio in universities has been a widely discussed topic for decades and sometimes even centuries. In my opinion, a gender inequality is hardly eradicated by imposing a 50/50 split in every subject. The progressive world hails meritocracy, which rewards people of any gender or origin for who they are and not what they were born as. After all, the key idea behind the feminist movement is getting the society to perceive women as equals after centuries of oppression. Allocating guaranteed spots to women based on a pre-determined set of chromosomes from before they were born hardly solves the problem.
However
, I have to concede than artificial tweaks to the gender ratio in universities is necessary in some cases and may be for the better. It is common knowledge that Japanese universities have a
