Many people believe that reducing speed limits is the best option for road safety improvement. Do you think there are other measures that could be put in place? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

It is commonly believed that in order to secure the roads, the great way is to lessen the speed limits. In my opinion,
although
speed restrictions do play an important role, there are other detrimental factors contributing to road safety as well. While it is important to have restricted speed limits, there are other important measures that could be put in place to avoid fatal accidents. Road safety improvement plans act as a crucial part in government policies and procedures.
In other words
, public awareness, frequent license checks contributes significantly towards secure roads. It is important for people to be aware of rules and regulations while driving on roads.
This
awareness can be given to individuals in the form of brochures or advertisements which will help them drive carefully.
Furthermore
, it is crucial
on
Suggestion
for
to
the government to have frequent license checks to ensure that only people with valid license are driving on the roads and are aware of rules and regulations.
On the other hand
, there are merits and demerits associated with reduced speed limits. One obvious advantage is to avoid fatal accidents which results in loss of human life leaving families in shock.
For example
, it was reported by roads and transport authority in the UAE that reducing the speed from 120km/hour to 100km/hour reduced the accidents by 30% in one year. The adverse effects of reducing speed on roads results in traffic congestion in cities, making it difficult for ambulances and people to reach hospital in emergency situations. To conclude, there are numerous way which can be opted to ensure road safety. While government plays an important part to provide constant checks, it is important for us to play our part to provide a safe road environment.
