Is the mental strength important for success in sports or is it more important to have strong and fit people in sports. Discuss both views and give opinion.

Written by Ms May, Feb 7th, 2020 Many people believe physical
strength
is of greater importance than
mentality
to help athletes achieve
success
in sports. While I agree that physical
strength
is critical to an athlete’s
success
, I strongly believe that
mentality
should be equally appreciated.
First
of all, it stands to reason that
strength
and fitness play an important role in helping athletes reach the height of their
success
. Only physically strong athlete can withstand the vigorous training practice and in contests where the weather condition is harsh. In many sports
such
as swimming, muscular
strength
is required to help the body move fast and maintain the high speed to win the competitions. The fact that many professional athletes
such
as tennis players or football players are prone to early retirement around the age of 35 proves that physical
strength
greatly contributes to their sporting
success
. Despite the aforementioned arguments in
favor
promote over another
favour
of
strength
and fitness, I contend that there are various reasons to justify the equal value of mental
strength
in making an athlete’s
success
. The
first
argument is that the professional’s arduous training practice requires great determination. Getting up early to run in winter chill will constitute an unsurpassable barrier to people without discipline and determination. In intense competitions,
mentality
matters much more. In many cases
such
as in marathon races or swimming competitions, when being

by the opponents, athletes without persistence and confidence can be easily discouraged and give up. In football matches,
in particular
, playing under pressure of the spectators’ loud cheering calls for players to maintain their determination to garner the victory for the whole team. In conclusion, both physical
strength
and
mentality

mental
constitute two major factors of an athlete’s
success
. I do not side with the view that physical
