Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Planet earth has been suffering from a myriad of environmental crises, one of which is the
extinction
of various
species
of flora and fauna. Over the past few decades,
this
problem has become so insurmountable that some consider it as the
number
one environmental issue.
Others

Others, however

, claim that there are more serious environmental concerns on top of the agenda. Unsustainable development has devastated the population of visible symbols of different parts of the biosphere with extraordinary speed, pushing many
species
to and beyond the edge of
extinction
. The disappearance of a single animal or plant
species
upsets the balance and takes a heavy toll on other creatures by disrupting food chains.
Moreover
, these imbalances have a way of coming back to haunt humans when they least expect. Should a part of the chain cease to exist, the entire system will malfunction.
For example
, the radical decline in feline predators’ population has resulted in a sharp increase in the
number
of rodents,
such
as rats and porcupines, who threaten plant
species
and agricultural crops in order to survive, thereby posing problems for humans. The loss of animal and plant
species
is undoubtedly a grave concern.
However
, we are faced with a myriad of other environmental catastrophes, many of which are responsible for the
extinction
of plants and animals in the
first
place. Take,
for example
, air

pollution, which
has resulted in a

of terminal illnesses and death among millions of organisms and despite

to tackle it, it has still remained a knotty problem in many parts of the world.
Moreover
, some other environmental catastrophes
such
as drought and flood can wipe out
animals

the animals
and plants from the face of the earth long before the repercussions of
extinction
are felt. The
number
of environmental issues has become so alarming that people seem unable to agree upon the most serious one.
Although
the loss of particular
species
of plants and animals is certainly a crucial issue, it does not seem far-fetched to assume that there is a plethora of more fundamental problems. Should humans reach a solution to them, we might no longer witness the tragic loss of diverse
species
.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
