Scientists agree that people are damaging their health by eating too much junk food. Some people think that the answer to this problem is to educate people. Others think education will not work. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Scientific findings have revealed that the immoderate consumption of fast
food
is leading to the degeneration of people’s health. Some people point out that
this
detrimental practice can be solved through
education
. While others regard
education
as an ineffective measure to mitigate the phenomenon. I would argue that raising the awareness of people could be considered as the key answer to the problem. On the one hand, some people distrust the effectiveness of
education
for several reasons. To start with, in spite of being aware of the adverse effects of fast
food
, a large number of people who are too strenuous persist to eat it due to its being convenient and time-saving. When they are too busy with their work or family, they cannot prepare their home-cooked
food
to bring to the workplace. In
this
situation,
education
makes no difference as they have no choice.
Moreover
, compared with the wide range and availability of junk
food
stores, nutrition
food
is extremely limited. In fact, healthy foods are often inferior to fast
food
in terms of good taste and low prices.
As a result
, despite trying to persuade by
education
, it is almost unachievable for people to switch their eating habits without a ready alternative to their poisonous
food
choices.
On the other hand
, I believe that raising awareness of people can be the most effective way.
Firstly
, many junk
food
products give very little or no information on the nutritional content in them, deterring the consumers from knowing the amount of fat, sodium or cholesterol which they take in. In fact, unhealthy
food
contains higher in fat, higher in salt, higher in s
ugar but

sugar, but
lower in f
iber
a slender and greatly elongated substance capable of being spun into yarn
fibre
and nutrients
such
as vitamins and minerals. By being well informed of how much of these detrimental substances are contained in junk
food
, as well as being shown dangerous consequences of over-eating these foods, purchasers can be more cautious the
next
time they choose their
food
.
Secondly
, Schools can educate healthy eating habits for children from an early age.
Besides
, educators can organize some activities which are cooking contests with the participation of parents and their children to promote eating healthy
food
at home. In conclusion, people have different views about whether to support
education
so as to diminish people’s consumption of unhealthy
food
. In my view,
education
can be a practical measure with careful consideration of
this
problem.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
