In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decided to do this.

It is not uncommon for students to travel or
work
before starting university, for at least a year. Usually after high school these students are given a choice between either working or travelling. I can think of many pros and cons of
this
method, which I will discuss below. When a pupil decides to travel or
work
before commencing
further
education, it gives them a break between studying, keeping their minds fresh before university starts. They are exposed to valuable experience which helps them to a choose a stable future job. Visiting other countries
also
broadens their mindset and enables students to
work
proficiently.
On the other hand
,
this
will waste a whole professional year of the student's life. After which, the students who decide to
work
and earn money might decide against
further
studying.

Also, there
is a risk here that students that choose to travel, might change their mind about studying as they have lost touch with the education system. In general, I think the advantages of taking a study break for a year outweighs the disadvantages. Pupils have a lot of resources to better themselves professionally and personally.
Therefore
, it is a great idea and should be encouraged.
