With an increasing overweight population some think universities should make sport a compulsory module on all degree courses. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In today’s fast-paced world,
although
students are self-conscious of their fluctuating weight, the lack of
time
causes them to face difficulty in working out due to the amount of work given. As a Polytechnic student, I can resonate with
this
; because of the projects I am assigned to, it is no easy feat finding opportunities to do my favourite hobbies – running, jogging and swimming much less taking a walk around in my neighbourhood.
This
results in my ever-increasing number on the weighing scale.
Therefore
, I feel that while students prioritise academic excellence, universities should infuse sport modules into each degree course for all to socialise, balancing their lifestyle. Certainly, students have the mindset that exercising is a waste of
time
. To exemplify, in universities, pupils

and pressurised with the effort to do well in their tests, projects and examinations. In fact, some take up part-

jobs, relying on

to earn and pay off their expensive school fees. The majority,
hence
find it meaningless and prefer enjoying the little
time
left for leisure after finishing their assignments.
This
also
allows students to focus more on academic excellence and real-life problems before stepping out into the workforce in the near future, proving that sport modules may not be critical. Yet, having physical activities cultivate good habits into

tasks to complete within a deadline, resulting in insufficient
time
to get fit. It appears that today’s world consumes more red meat and that inactive lifestyles are increasing exponentially, leading to overweight issues and diseases - high cholesterol which might surface when
one
gets older.
Thus
, starting from young, instilling the importance of keeping fit is indispensable for their overall health. Many may argue that students can find
time
outside to exercise at their own pace. On account of that, it is undeniable to admit that
such
arguments are true. But, having sports in universities aids pupils in socialising with others.
For instance
, in Singapore, undergraduates are obligated to choose and attend a module from a wide variety of sports during their tertiary education. Ultimately, while working out together, friendships are forged when surrounding peers encourage each other to persevere through difficult assessments. Henceforth, it is beneficial for students as it not only allows them to exercise, but have the accompany of friends. To conclude, the
time
spent studying at university is limited and stressful. Though students feel that it is vital to work towards success, I believe that the school system ought to reinforce the importance of exercising amid their busy schedule, allowing it to be a mandatory module in their timetable. Not only is
this
for all to shift towards a healthier lifestyle, but interacting with peers having the same interest can help motivate
one
to develop good habits. After all,
one
would not have to worry about the uprising death complications caused by unhealthy dieting.
