Many students choose to take a gap year before starting university, to travel or gain work experience. Do you think this is a good idea or a waste of time?

Taking a
gap
year
is becoming an increasingly prevalent trend, especially in western countries, like the US and Britain. Some claim that
this
would be beneficial for the
gap
year
takers while others regard it as a waste of
time
. I would argue that taking a
gap
year
would be a waste of
time
because it scarcely pays off, no matter in what ways it is planned. For the majority of students, they would not devote the one
year
gap
time
into fruitful or rewarding activities. One of my friends spent his
gap
year
into nothing, but hanging out with friends, playing video games, and watching YouTube. At the age of 18, people may not mature or sensible enough to have effective
time
-management and to create a comprehensive plan for their lifelong career.
Consequently
, the students would find the
gap
year
is highly likely to be easy and fun,
instead
of conducive for their career planning or personal enhancement. In a word, the
gap
year which
Accept comma addition
year, which
should have been filled with internships and volunteer work turns out to be occupied with useless activities For minority farsighted and mature students, a
gap
year
seems to have certain validity at
first
glance as it could provide them with a meaningful experience, fostering their workplace interpersonal skills.
However
, the jobs accessible and available for high school graduates are more or less offered by Starbucks, KFC, or McDonald's.
For example
, on job-seeking web pages, the jobs that do not require a bachelor's degree are mainly waiters in cafes or security in shopping malls. Unlike other higher-leveled occupations, these jobs do not need professionalism nor theoretical knowledge.
Therefore
, spending a
year
on these jobs seems not to have any favourable effects on a personal level. To conclude, even for those rational and industrious students, a
gap
year
can be futile, let alone those irrational and lazy ones. What a
gap
year
could provide to students is either instant relaxation or dispensable working experience, if the meagre salary is not counted.
As a result
, I reckon taking a
gap
year
at
such
a golden age is a waste of
time
.
