Many governments think that economic progress is their most important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of progress are equally important for a country. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

It is thought by some governments that economic growth is the main key of a

country.
Nevertheless
, it is my belief that other forms of
progress
have a more important role. On the one hand, it is understandable why some people believe that economic
progress
is a country’s most important role. For one, a strong economy ensures a high living standard for the citizens. It not only creates a high level of employment but

the wealth of material things the residents have,

their residents is likely to be improved because of all these services. The significance of economic growth is
thus
clear.
On the other hand
, I would maintain that other measures of
progress
are
also
important. It must be recognised that a person’s quality of life is significant as it presents the intangible aspects of

as political stability, religious freedom and safety. Without freedom and democracy, citizens are not at liberty to live as they wish or practice their religious or political beliefs, which results in the number of protest and

putting the national security at risks. Another factor is the safety of residents. The outbreak of covid-19,
for instance
, has led most countries to have no choice than to impose a lockdown on their

in order to protect their citizens from the disease. Should they not do
this
earlier, many people will die and there will no economic recovery. In conclusion, while it is true that economic
progress
plays an integral role in the development of a country, it is my firm belief that the increase in quality of life of people is a country’s fundamental goal.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
