Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

According to recent statistics, its been stated that advertisements make us purchase goods that are really of no benefit to us while some statistics
also
shows that advertising gives us ideas of new products that could modify our lives, but in my opinion I would say advertisement really makes us buy things that would not benefit us.
First
of all, advertisement is basically done for the purpose of making people aware of a particular goods or services, but it
also
makes us buy things we think we need, but we
then
realise it is no
use
to us and we eventually have to give it out to someone that needs it.
For instance
, my grandma bought a
pot
of #75000 (seventy-five thousand Naira) that was advertised to her at the college, she teaches and she paid for it in a 3-month's instalment. By the time she took the
pot
home, she noticed there was no way she would be able to
use
the
pot
and maintain it. She
also
said the
pot
was just occupying space because she does not know how to
use
it and her kitchen is small, so she had to give it out to my aunt who needs it and knows how to
use
and maintain it.
Furthermore
, advertising encourages us to purchase things because it is well packaged and looks nice, but sometimes when
one
gets to see the content
one
Accept comma addition
one, then
then
realizes it does not worth
one
buying it as it is not worth what
one
expected.
Besides
some products are so packaged, but it is a different thing from what is shown on the package
that is
in it.
For example
, my aunt and I went to a store to buy chocolates, so we saw a chocolate called "Kamara" and on its package we were told that the chocolate is of various shapes, patterns, flavours and fillings so we bought it. By the time we got home to
use
the chocolates we realized that it is only a single shape, pattern, flavour and filling
that is
in it and we felt it does not worth the price and it is just packaging. To conclude, it is best to know the benefits and the proper way to
use
the contents of what you want to purchase before doing so. Sometimes it is good to
use
a particular brand you have been using because you will be sure of the content and the users.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
