Shopping is the most favorite pastime of the young people. Why do you think is that? Do you think they should be encouraged to do some other useful activities?

Nowadays, the consumerism among the youths is increasing, in which their favourite pastime is shopping. In the past, teenagers used to spend their day playing or chatting with friends, but now, they are spending their
time
in shopping centres or buying items online. Unfortunately, their environment dictates
this
new behaviour,
in other words
, they must wear or have specific items in order to be part of the group.
This
might be happening due to the
time
they spend in front of the television and/or computer. They are getting bombed with adds, with photos of happy people wearing a branded shirt. I strongly agree that
this
generation must be encouraged to do different activities, and occupy their minds with more productive thoughts.
For instance
,
instead
of thinking about buying things, they should be stimulated to give their
time
, their spare clothes and shoes to charity and help the ones whom most need it. That happiness when they buy something is momentaneous, and they need to do it again in order to keep that euphoria. It is like an endless cycle, the more they buy, the more they need new things. As soon as they break
this
pattern, they will realize that there is

shopping. To conclude, whenever they get bored,
instead
of going to the
first
mall, they can start reading a book, playing a musical instrument, learning a new language.
In other words
, they must keep their mind occupied with useful activities and at the same
time
, funny hobbies.
