It seems clear that obesity in today's society is to some extent due to the availability of fast food. Should governments place a tax on fast food to reduce the amount of fast food consumed?

ast few decades, fast
food
has become a regular part of everyone’s meal. It has been clearly observed by many that the fast-
food
has emerged as one of the causes responsible for rising obesity levels among people around the sphere, and the governments should take corrective measures by putting extra taxes on these unhealthy
food
items.
Moreover
, I strongly agree with the statement and my reasons are
further
discussed in the following paragraphs with relevant examples. Out of all the reasons, the foremost one, I put forward is that these foods have infiltrated into the everyday routine as
such
that it is almost impossible to eradicate them from our plate. These quickly cooked foods and their companies tend to fool people by marketing the positives of the product and hiding the crucial information about the drawbacks of the same, and how dangerous they are for people having a weak immune system and underlying health conditions.
For instance
, the sugar content in these foods are at alarming levels, and they are often described under different names.
This
leads to people becoming obese and getting diagnosed with newer diseases every year. As per a survey by WHO, the sugar is the primary reason behind fat deposition, and
thus
being overweight gives birth to diseases like cancer and heart failure.
However
, the question arises as to why these foods were not regulated by the government and why they are available at cheaper prices than those of healthy and fresh foods. The government, to rectify the mistakes of the past should introduce a fast
food
and sugar tax for the betterment of the health of the people. To exemplify, the Government of London has passed the motion to take down the fried and quick cooked foods from the menu by imposing heavy taxes on the same.
This
has emerged as a benchmark for various other countries, as after
this
decision the City of London witnessed a continuous decline in numbers of obese and unhealthy people.
Thus
, to conclude it can be said that, the fast
food
is the sole culprit behind the various health issues among people, and
also
the corrective measures in the same direction by the government can solve
this
issue, as visible from the efforts of the London Government.
