Dear Mike, I am writing to express my gratitude for lending me the book “Remote sensing and the environment” written by J. Johnson. As you remember, I was giving a presentation at the office concerning the latest technologies and usage of remote sensing data in oil spill assessment.
This
 presentation was significantly important for me because I was giving a speech not only in front of the manager staff but
also
 in front of one of our major clients, Chevron oil company. In fact, the signing of a contract was at stake.
Thus
, the book was a great help in the preparation of my presentation by providing a detailed description of the procedure of a site assessment following an oil spill event.

Use a variety of complex and simple sentences

You should use complex sentences in your writing, but it does not mean that you should try to make all of our sentences complex.

‘Complex’ sentences are not actually very complex; they are just two or more simple sentences put together. Putting them together makes the essay more coherent and cohesive.

Examples:

I really want to study but I’m too tired.

I wore a warm coat because the weather was cold.

If action is not taken soon on climate change, global warming will get worse.
