Nowadays people use social media to keep up with the news. Why do they do this? Is it a positive or negative trend?

With the advent of the internet, social

 has drastically changed our lives. These days,
people
 get
news
 at their fingertips, and many of us use web-based applications to keep abreast of local and global events.
However
, the real question is, is it worth following
such
 an application to check on the
news
. In
this
 essay, I will discuss why
this
 is trending among
people
 and explain why I feel it negatively impacts. There are several reasons for
this
 trend, but the massive one is easy to access to the
news
. In social
media
 applications, anyone can follow their favourite channels
such
 as global
news
, music.¬ While scrolling the newsfeed,
people
 can quickly check updates regarding these channels. It provides them with the latest information not only for local but
also
 for global events. Instagram,
for example
, allows access to follow all kinds of
news
 channels and provide details about the
news
 with videos. Whereas in the past, individuals have to wait for the daily traditional newspaper or morning
news
 on television to stay updated.
Thus
, to catch up with the
news
 on the go, these internet-based apps are gaining popularity.
Although
 social
media
 apps are convenient, the information provided on
such
 apps is false. A lot of content on these platforms is not verified;
this
 sometimes gives the wrong direction about the subject, which is not beneficial for society. About the cyclone in Kolkata,
for instance
, while scrolling the newsfeed,
people
 got to know that they have to leave the city before the cyclone arrives. Later, they got to know it is about other cities. If
people
 continue to follow
such
 kind of
news
, they might well end up believing in false content and waste their time worrying about it.
Thus
, it is harmful to
people
 to continue relay on
such
 updates. In conclusion, social
media
 applications are gaining popularity to provide the latest and fast
news
 updates.
However
, I feel that it can spread false information
that is
 unreliable and dangerous for
people
 to follow.
