Tourism has increased so much over the last 50 years that it is having a mainly negative impact on local inhabitants and the environment. However, others claim that it is good for the economy. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of tourism and give your own opinion.

I believe that
tourism
can be harmful to the local inhabitants and disrupt the delicate ecological balance if not controlled. The following essay discusses how excess
tourism
can be dangerous to the environment and locals.
Firstly
,
tourists
can generate a lot more
waste
than the location's
waste
management can handle. Sometimes they may throw garbage at remote
places
like Trekking or Hiking routes where there is no
waste
handling system. Food wrappers and plastic bottles are among the most common
waste
generated by
tourists
can lay at those
places
forever.
This
not only defaces the environmental beauty of the site but
also
harms the sensitive ecosystem present there.
Secondly
, increased
tourism
leads to increased traffic of vehicles. These vehicles contribute to air and sound pollution that may not be there if not for heavy
tourism
. A typical scenario is an upsurge of
tourists
in Hill Stations during snowfall which, due to narrower hilly roads, causes traffic jams. It upsets the serenity of the place and causes hindrance in the routine of the local population.
Thirdly
, excess
tourism
can
also
cause complete depletion of natural resources at some locations. To meet
tourists
' demands, some
places
may lose their natural resources completely, leading to the end of
tourism
.
For example
, overfishing may lead to the extinction of a fish species at some remote islands, so much so that its inhabitants may suffer. Sometimes, the freshwater sources of hilly
places
may run dry, and the locals have to rely on water supply from nearby areas. Rather than putting all our focus on the economic advantages of
tourism
, we need to understand and restrict
tourism
to a certain extent so that the environment can replenish at these sites and have sustainable
tourism
.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
