Many old buildings protected by law are part of a nation’s history. Some people think they should be knocked down and replaced by new ones.
In our modern-day society, the preservation of old
buildings
has become one of the major concerns of governments. Some people believe that ancient constructions should be demolished and give space to new high-rise buildings
. In this
essay, I will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of maintaining ancient buildings
.
Historic buildings
certainly have much value in many ways. To start with, ancient dwellings are an exact representation of a nation's history. Clearly, if we start demolishing all the buildings
built centuries ago, future generations will only have to read and imagine the nation's history. We should preserve artworks for those who come after us. Secondly
, tourists flow coming to see the old structures may boost the tourism industry and help to develop the economy of the country. Additionally
, citizens will have more employment opportunities in the hospitality sector. To illustrate, over 10.000 tourists visited Samarkand city in Uzbekistan within one year, thus
each of them contributed to the economy by buying tickets, booking accommodation, and etc.
Alternatively, history should not stand in the way of modernization. For instance
, the housing demand keeps growing with the rapid growth of the population in urban areas. Therefore
, some of the historic dwellings should be knocked down to make space for new buildings
. Even so, a more feasible solution to this
issue would be improving mobility in rural areas.
To sum up, the historic values of ancient constructions should not be ignored. Governments should keep preserving old buildings
by law even if they might be occupying a lot of urban space.Submitted by shoira.shakirovna on
