Some people believe that university education should focus on the skills of employment for the future. Others think they should focus on academic study only. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

There are conflicting views about the
education
of
university
should pay attention to employment or academic research
skills
. Both sides of the argument will be discussed in
this
essay, followed by my perspective on
this
matter. Those who advocate
university
education
should focus on the
skills
for future employment may put forth the following argument. It is common to see that
job
hunting is becoming fierce in current society. Suppose
university
education
focuses on students’
job
skills
. In that case, students could learn more practical
skills
or get part-time jobs recommended by their
university
, which can equip students with professional
knowledge
and
skills
, contributing to strong employability.
Moreover
, some
skills
like interpersonal
skills
are not only important for working but
also
for future life. People who are equipped with excellent social
skills
are able to communicate with others effectively so that they could get along well with people from various backgrounds, contributing to a strong bond with friends and family, which would result in a strong sense of belonging and connection.
Nevertheless
, those who think the
university
should focus on
job
skills
can
also
justify their opinions.
Firstly
, some people may complain that they cannot commence a
job
after graduating from
university
. But the main aim of the
university
is to develop academic study rather than
job
skills
, which should be cultivated in a vocational college. More importantly, the development of practical fields will be impeded if our
knowledge
system lacks theoretical studies.
Secondly
, compared with other types of
education
, the advantage of the
university
is that it has a bunch of valuable research resources for students’ academic study. When students are exposed to various
knowledge
,
such
breadth of
knowledge
may inspire them to connect unrelated information, contributing to some original ideas. Eventually, their creative thinking ability will be improved in
this
process, which is crucial for human progress. In my opinion, the
university
should pay more attention to academic study because of their original aim and valuable research sources. Meanwhile, they cannot ignore practical
skills
education
because not all graduates are inclined to be academics.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
