Universities should accept equal number of male and female students in every subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

This
question, whether there should be equal seats for male and female
students
in every
subject
? has been raised many times in the recent past. One group of people believe that universities should intake an equal number of male and female
students
for each
subject
.
However
, I do not agree with
this
idea of equal seats for men and women in universities and will provide reasons to support my viewpoint in
this
essay.
To begin
with, males and
females
have different preferences, when it comes to what they may want to study, depending on the job they want to do in the future. Few subjects including mechanics or electronics, attract more males than
females
,
similarly
, more
females
are inclined towards studying subjects like fashion designing and aviation hospitality as compared to men.
For instance
, a report on the aviation industry in India shows that 85% of the staff are
females
.
Secondly
, it would be unfair to accept admissions based on gender, rather, their merits should be the basis of their admission to a particular
subject
. If
this
rule of admitting equal males and
females
for each
subject
is implemented,
then
it may create pressure on the universities to get an equal number of
students
from both genders to enrol for the
subject
.
Furthermore
, it will
also
be unfair to the
students
.
For instance
, if a female student who has good grades and wishes to enrol in a specific
subject
, is not able to because the female quota is full, it would be unfair and unjust, as she would be deprived of her right to study the
subject
of her choice, despite having sufficient grades. In conclusion, though sexist inequality should not exist, reserving equal seats for each gender in every
subject
, is not a good idea because it is not practical and
also
not fair. I believe, that admissions to any
subject
should be based only on merits and not on the gender of the student.
