Universities and colleges are now offering qualifications through distance learning from the internet rather than teachers in the classroom. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

It is reported that 6.6 million
students
enrolled in
distance
learning in 2017, while
this
number has skyrocketed to over 400 million
students
due to the spread of COVID-19. While some doubt that whether
distance
learning facilitates offering qualifications, I believe that the positive effects of
this
development outweigh its adverse impacts . There are two main reasons why people might disapprove of offering qualifications through online learning from a
distance
. The
first
objection is that parts of
students
cannot master relevant skills due to the lack of surveillance, which might give rise to invalid certificates
then
damage the reputation of schools. The
second
argument against
distance
learning is that the circumstance of schools is conducive to
students
who are undisciplined. And homely condition distracts their attentions more easily. In spite of the drawbacks mentioned above, I believe that
distance
learning is an effective method to deliver knowledge. On one hand, it saves commuting and living costs for
students
.
For example
, international
students
are not uncommon across the world. If they are accessible to get their diplomas through
this
distance
learning, they could save considerable school-related fees.
On the other hand
, it is a good opportunity for
students
who come from poor nations to have the same chance to get qualifications.
This
means that maybe you can study online courses from Oxford University, whereas you are living in Africa or other places which are far away from England. In conclusion, it seems to me that we gain more than we lose from
distance
education.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
