Obesity is now a major global epidemic. What can be done to tackle this increasingly common problem?

Differently from the prehistorical ages, finding
food
is no longer
one
of the main everyday problems in modern society.
However
, a completely opposite problem is surging nowadays, with
obesity
emerging as a new form of global
health
issue that must be faced. In
this
essay, I will discuss
obesity
, the main causes behind
this
growing condition, and the possible solutions that could solve it. Global
health
epidemiologists worldwide are addressing
obesity
as the “modern times pandemic”. With consumerism taking place during our time, there is no doubt that it has tainted even the
food
business. Big fast-
food
chains
for example
, like Mc Donald’s and Burger King, are spreading at a terrifying rate in all the big cities worldwide, where the bulk of the
population
resides, and are progressively influencing the eating habits of many people, posing themselves as
one
of the main causes of
obesity
.
For instance
, research revealed that more than 40% of Americans choose to eat at least
one
meal in fast foods.
Furthermore
, several interviewers have reported that all worker brackets find it difficult to find the time to cook proper healthy
food
as well as to make time for physical activities. Undoubtedly, modern society is forcing the pace on the
population
so that self-care and
health
problems are put in
second
place, behind work productivity and money,
thus
paving the way for
obesity
. In
such
a problematic scenario, there are several things that can be done by the governments to tackle the issue, both in form of practical and educational approaches.
First
, different policies aimed at improving the commerce of greens and healthy goods, like funding small groceries and healthy
food
restaurant chains, should be awarded.
In addition
to that, an educational approach starting from the school ought to be included.
For example
,
health
and alimentation should be included between the elementary school subjects. Children, in fact, are the most affected by
this
pandemic and, while today
one
out of three American kids are overweight, they will represent a
population
of sick people, suffering from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, that will account for an unbearable expenditure for the national
health
systems in the very
next
future.
Finally
, physical activity should be promoted both in the schools and in the workplaces with compulsory exercise hours for all the workers.
This
would not only improve their metabolic conditions but
also
help relieve their stress levels. If a solid and holistic approach like
this
were taken by all the governments, few would disagree that the problem would disappear at a very fast pace. In conclusion, the current issue of
obesity
is becoming more and more undeniable.
This
essay discussed how overweight is finding its way through all tiers of the
population
due to consumerism and the stress of modern society. What could be the counteractions to be taken in order to reduce the problem have been discussed as well.
Obesity
, in fact, if left uncontrolled, would have catastrophic effects on a global scale.
