Even though doctors advise old people to get more exercise, many old people do not get enough. What are the reasons for this? What are some possible solutions for this?

In recent years, there have been so many cases of lifestyle diseases and the most affected are the older generations. Medical practitioners encourage these people of advanced ages to practice regularly, but they seem not to get enough exercise due to various reasons like lack of
facilities
. In
this
essay, I will discuss a few reasons and potential solutions.
To begin
with, older people do not have access to
facilities
and recreational places that will help them exercise on a regular basis. These include social infrastructures like gyms, walking trails, pedestrian paths, and playgrounds. In most countries, these amenities are provided by local authorities, but they lack financial and resource capacity. In Kenya,
for example
, the government has failed to incorporate non-motorized networks on our roads. Unfavourable weather condition is
also
another factor that prevents people with advanced ages from going out and engage in physical activities. With the devastating effects of climate change, the weather patterns have become quite unpredictable and sometimes could be extreme. During the rainy season,
for example
, it could rain heavily and make places flood or destroy
facilities
,
hence
preventing movement out of houses. Providing accessible and well-equipped indoor
facilities
,
however
, could be provided in residential areas in order to encourage old citizens to exercise when the weather is bad, and access to these should be free or affordable. Governments should
also
partner with private investors to put up gyms, road networks, walking trails in parks or forests among others.
In addition
, family members, especial children and grandchildren, should
also
play a part in advising their parents to practice always. In conclusion, exercising regularly should be encouraged among senior citizens so that they can avoid diseases that come with old age.
This
task should not just be left to doctors, but
also
society at large should play a role.
