Some people argue that capital punishment is a brutal decision and should be abolished. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people have different views about the
death
penalty
, seeing it as a ruthless

that should be abolished.
Nevertheless
, I believe that the
death
penalty
should remain because not only can it serve as a deterrent to serious crimes but it
also
means that taxpayers’
money
won’t be spent on taking care of the criminals for
life
.
First,
capital punishment is a warning to those contemplating serious crimes as they may face the ultimate consequence. Obviously, people, including criminals, love their lives and are afraid to die.
For instance
, without
such
a punishment, atrocious activities will only result in
life
in prison at most, which is much more acceptable to criminals;
in addition
, in many countries, a
life
sentence may be reduced over time or, in some cases, be pardoned. Another reason for the continuation of the
death
penalty
is that it costs less to terminate the
life
of a criminal than to prolong it indefinitely. To put into perspective, literally speaking, a
life
sentence or one with significantly long jail time,
such
as 80 or 100 years, means that the state will have to spend taxpayers’
money
to care for the convict for
life
. To
further
illustrate, the amount of
money
necessary to sustain a criminal for
life
includes the costs of food, medical care, clothing, and facility maintenance. It is obvious that the state can use
this
money
to improve the quality of
life
of the general public
instead
.
In addition
, many convicts quickly return to their
life
of crime and repeat the cycle soon after being released, wasting more tax
money
in the process. In conclusion, though it may appear to be a harsh and inhumane act, which some view as a cruelty that should be discontinued, I would strongly argue that the cancellation of the
death
penalty
will surely make matters worse.
