Some students take one year off between finishing high school and going to university, in order to travel or to work. Do you think advantages outweigh disadvantages?

Nowadays, the educational system has become more flexible towards
students
. New questions have been raised about the effect of taking a gap
year
between school and
university
periods on
students
. In
this
essay, I will examine both benefits and drawbacks of
this
notion and explain why I think that a
year
off could bring a range of opportunities regardless of some difficulties. Many people, myself included, support the idea that a
year
after school allows a vast majority of
students
to explore the world around them.
First
of all,
this
period could be determined in terms of the future career path. Given the fact that most
students
go to work in order to gain experience and understand their preferences, so they can choose a suitable educational program. Another point
that is
worth pointing out is that
this
is a perfect way to relax. Indeed, the school education lasts about 11 years and immediately move on to the
next
stage without any break could lead to many dire consequences for mental health because of stress and pressure.
On the other hand
, there is an opinion that a
year
off yields difficulties regarding
further
university
education. The
first
factor is the time that
students
missed. By giving up the idea of a gap
year
,
students
finish
university
earlier and
therefore
start a relevant career, while others lose
this
opportunity. The
second
factor is the effort
that is
needed in order to be able to prepare for
further
studying years. A
year
abroad,
for example
, may cause deep reluctance of
students
to go back to the studying process. In conclusion, there is a complicated decision that has to be made regarding if the person should take a break between two educational stages or not.
However
, I believe that advantages including the
first
work experience and an opportunity to unwind prevail over some downsides like later
university
graduation and problems with back to study flow.
