With the rise of e-books comes the decline in paper books. Some people see this is a good step forward while others do not. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

Nowadays more publishers tend to publish
e-
books
over
paper
books
. While some
people
believe that
this
trend
has more
benefits
, others think there are more
drawbacks
over
benefits
. In
this
essay, I will discuss both advantages and
disadvantages
, and explain why I believe
this
trend
has more
benefits
than
drawbacks
.
To begin
with, it is irrefutable that there are
disadvantages
of decline in
paper
books
. One of the
drawbacks
is, electronic
books
do not have the same look and feel as
paper
made
books
.
For instance
, scientists have proved that, when reading a
book
,
paper
books
help to keep concentration on its content due to its look and feel, whereas reading
e-
books
would tend to lose focus as it does not give the same feeling as traditional
books
.
Furthermore
, since many rural
people
do not have access to electronic devices, and lack computer literacy, these
people
would be impacted when the production of
paper
-based
books
is decreasing. To illustrate, especially in under-developed countries, since there are many
people
who do not have internet access in their living areas, they would not be able to learn if traditional
books
are no longer publishing.
However
; even though there are some
disadvantages
of
this
trend
, some
people
included myself, believe that
this
has more
benefits
than
drawbacks
. One advantage is,
this
would be more convenient for readers as they could keep thousands of
e-
books
on their device, whereas it would not be possible to carry a large number of physical
books
when they travel.
For example
, if a person travels by public transport, he/she would need to bring only an e-device to read multiple
e-
books
rather than carrying out heavy
books
while travelling.
Additionally
, since publishers would not need to print
books
,
this
would
also
be beneficial for them as it saves printing costs. To illustrate, writers have to pay thousands of dollars to publishers to print a
book
which discourages writers to produce a new
book
,
however
, with the advancement of technologies, they are no longer required to print those as they could publish the
book
as an e-
book
which saves a lot of money. In summary, since electronic
books
are getting more popular, more writers tend to publish their
books
as
e-
books
which would decline the production of
paper
books
. Some
people
believe
this
trend
has negative effects while others including myself, believe there are more advantages over
disadvantages
.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
