Some people think that zoos are cruel and all the zoos should be closed. However, others think that zoos are useful to protect rare animals. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Zoos
are popular locations for people to visit in their free time. Nowadays, there is much debate about the closure of zoos
as capturing animals
and enclosing them in small spaces may be seen as cruel. I will discuss in this
essay, whether zoos
are created for the selfish desires of humans or if they actually help protect endangered species
.
Most zoos
do not have enough space for the various animals
that are in them. Cheetahs and lions, for instance
, require open grasslands and wide spaces, which zoo enclosures cannot usually provide. In addition
to this
, the food provided to these wild animals
is not the same as they would get in the jungle. For example
, the process of catching their prey before consuming them is equally important to these animals
and helps them lead happier and more satisfied lives.
That being said, zoos
provide a safe haven for endangered species
. For example
, tigers, which are some of the most endangered species
in the world, are now alive solely because of the fact that they are protected in zoos
. Another benefit is that zoos
not only provide basic knowledge about animals
to the general public but also
create awareness about the various endangered species
on our planet. Additionally
, animals
that are born in zoos
cannot adapt to the wild and will not survive if they are released into the wild after they are grown.
In conclusion, if there are proper regulations in place with regards to how much space is allotted to each animal, I am of the opinion that zoos
could be more useful rather than harmful. Protecting endangered species
and creating awareness about it are important duties that we as humans need to fulfil, and this
can be achieved by building bigger and better zoos
that are more suited to the needs of animals
