An increasing number of people are buying what they need online. what are advantage and disadvantage for both individual and companies to shopping online?
With globalisation and the advancement of technology and the internet, many people are migrating from traditional shopping centres to online stores for purchasing
products
. In this
essay, we shall look at the advantages and disadvantages online shopping poses for both the individual and companies selling products
online.
First
, let us take a look from the point of view of the customer. For starters, they will have access to millions of products
irrespective of their locality, and they do not need to leave their house for making a buy. Furthermore
, they can avoid the hassle of traffic and crowds. On the other hand
, the fact that there will be a delay in delivery. Online platforms usually have a 7 day delivery period, but if there is any festival or strike in your locality, there will always be a further
delay. Online shopping has seen a rise in online fraudsters, who put out promotions for products
for ridiculously low prices, which attract customers. Moreover
, the fact that buyers cannot physically touch the products
means, there is a good chance the product
selected on the website, and the one received may be different. For instance
, during the COVID pandemic, sales on online platforms have skyrocketed. Last
week itself, I had a friend who purchased black running shoes, and it took close to 15 days to deliver because of a local strike in her city. When the product
finally
arrived, she received pink running shoes.
Online shopping also
has its own sets of pros and cons from a company point of view. On one hand, the company selling the product
does not require sales staff to sell a product
, and they do not spend on utilities such
as rent and electricity because they don't have a physical location for the store. Besides
this
, there is no need to hold several warehouses in different locations to hold the products
which they are selling. That being said, companies need to invest more in the delivery system to meet the rapid requirement from customers. They also
need to create and maintain a fully functioning website that will be accessed any time during the day, and therefore
any delay in response will cause hampers a shopper's experience resulting in complaints. Lastly
, they need to make an effective impact in trying to apprehend fraudsters from using their sites for malicious purposes.
In conclusion, with the advancement of technology, digital shopping is going to increase shortly, but e-commerce platforms still face a greater amount of fraud, so the companies must do their part to rid their site of this
, to keep customer loyalty.Submitted by Nigelvictorlawrence on
