Many governments think that economic progress is their most important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of progress are equally important for a country. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

People have different views about how governments should measure their countries’ progress, and

although

some of them believe that economic advance is the most essential of all, others

also

hold a view that states should arrange their allocation in different areas in order to make a balanced development for the whole

country

. In

this

essay, I will elaborate on both views, and present my reason for the later point of view. There are three key reasons why economic growth is seen as a fundamental goal for countries.

Firstly

, a healthy

economy

brings enormous benefits to individuals.

Besides

job creation, a high level of employment, it

also

provides better salaries for all citizens.

Secondly

, a developed

economy

ensures the improvement of the whole society become real. A strong financial support system is essential for governments to spend on infrastructure and public services.

, a government with higher revenues can invest in the

's transport network, its educational system and its hospitals’ condition.

Finally

economy

earns the

the privilege to stand on the global stage, having international conversations and solving common global problems,

as peace and poverty.

However

, like many other people, I would argue that various other forms of progress are just as significant as the economic factors mentioned above. The

first

one we should consider is the area of social justice. In another word, whether human rights, equality and democracy itself are rightfully conducted in a

country

or not.

For example

, the way we treat minority groups is often seen as a reflection of the moral standards and level of development of a society. Another key consideration when judging the progress of a modern

country

should be how well that

country

protects the natural environment, and whether its entire plan of expansion is moving towards environmental sustainability. Alternatively, the success of a nation could be

also

reflected by its social security system. Can the government wisely handle people’s health, well-being and happiness? In conclusion, the

economy

is obviously a key marker of a

country

’s success, but social, environmental and health criteria are equally significant.Only if a government balances these areas, the development of a

country

can truly be prosperous.
