Recent research suggests that the majority of criminals who are sent to prison commit crimes after they are released. Why is this the case? What can be done to solve this problem?

It is undeniable that an overwhelming number of
criminals
re-offend as they return to society. The reasons for
this
trend can be discussed in terms of two key areas, lack of rehabilitation as well as lack of
job
opportunities available for
criminals
. In
this
essay, I will discuss the reasons and
also
the solutions with which
this
problem could be tackled. There are several reasons contributing to ex-prisoners reoffending.
Firstly
, one evident reason would be the fact that seldom have
criminals
been reformed and rehabilitated. Bonding with other offenders in prisons, they might become more familiar with different kinds of crimes. To illustrate, a burglar who does not have enough experience would become familiar with different crimes,
as a result
of spending time with experienced
criminals
.
Secondly
, not being able to find a
job
after being released from prison,
criminals
may think of committing a crime again to earn a living. It could be because of the fact that whether employers and people do not trust them or they do not have the required skills for a work position. If ex-
criminals
could be prepared for different
job
positions, they had more chance of securing a
job
. There are various steps that government could take into account to tackle
this
problem.
Criminals
should be aware of moral and ethical issues,
therefore
, they can be accepted by society and individuals. In that way, people would trust them and try to have more interaction with them. Being accepted by society, the risk of them re-offending might be mitigated.
Also
, the government can help offenders to attain the skills and abilities which are needed for finding a
job
. These courses can be performed during the
criminals
' prisoning. To sum up, having training in prison in terms of moral topics and skills needed for various positions at work is effective in dealing with the issue of re-committing crimes when offenders are released.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
