You are unhappy about a plan to make your local airport bigger and increase the number of flights. You live near the airport. Write a letter to your local newspaper. In your letter 1. explain where you live 2. Describe the problem 3. give reasons why you do not want this development

Respected Sir, I am writing
this
letter in relation to the new
airport
development
project
that was announced by the
airport
authority of India. In
this
letter, I would like to share how
this
project
would impact the lives of the people around the
airport
and why our community is against
this
project
. I have been a resident in Air Nagar near the Coimbatore
airport
for close to 30 years. It is so close that, residents can hear the aeroplanes taking off and landing in the
airport
.
This
area was created in the 1980s and the community has been growing ever since. Now there are close to 250 buildings with close to 400 families. Most of the members of the society own the land in which they have built their homes. Our community is strictly against the latest expansion
project
. The government has agreed to buy the land back from the landowners,
however
, they are offering a rate
that is
lower than the market value.
This
is one of the major issues that the authorities have to address before moving forward. Adding to that,
this
upgrade
project
is flawed and isn't necessary at the moment.
Firstly
, there are many communities developing in and around the
airport
areas.
This
isn't a future proof plan and can cause hardship for the authorities in the future. Representing all the other communities near our areas, we propose that the
airport
be moved to a new location without any of these errors or difficulties. Yours faithfully, Vijay Balaji J

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
