Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to notify you of my interest in the voluntary work your museum recently advertised. Am a student of history at the University of Jos, Nigeria. Am currently on holiday and I would love to work with your organization.
This
is because I feel it is an opportunity for me to add to my experience and
also
acquire some skills.Apart from the fact that am studying history,I
also
have a passion for arts And history.
In addition
,I have some skills that could be beneficial to your company.I am very organized and flexible.I have good communication skills and I welcome correction. I believe all these would contribute to the growth and development of your institution. I am available to work from December to February 31st.I would be grateful if my application will be approved.I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks in anticipation. Yours faithfully, Deborah Dickson

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
