The governments should give each citizen a basic income so that they have enough money to live on, even if they are unemployed. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is said that everyone should be paid a basic
income
to meet their basic needs.
However
, some may argue doing so can create some clear
problems
. There are some reasons why some believe government should pay a basic
income
to their citizens.
Firstly
, if
people
cannot satisfy their basic needs,
this
leads to extreme
poverty
. Eventually,
this
may result in
health
problems
when they can not receive enough vitamins and nutritious foods due to
poverty
. Even in the long run,
governments
may be obliged to devote more public expenditure to the
health
sector to tackle
health
risks created by
poverty
.
Moreover
, unfair distribution of wealth in
societies
can cause some social issues. As some
people
cannot make ends needs, while some have a lavish lifestyle. So
this
may breed violence or even worse riots, particularly in impoverished areas when poor
people
feel be treated with contempt.
However
, allocating resources to eradicate
poverty
through paying basic
income
to anyone can cause some
problems
. Some
people
can be reluctant to work when the
governments
satisfy their basic needs.
This
being the case may lead to unproductive
societies
. The government can incur considerable expenses in the long run, whose GDP can decrease.
This
can
also
lead to
societies
being faced with financial crises.
Therefore
, in my view,
governments
,
instead
of paying basic
income
to everyone, should devote their budgets to investing in impoverished areas and creating job opportunities for them. In conclusion,
poverty
in
societies
may create social and
health
problems
.
Governments
should urgently consider
this
matter, But paying basic
income
to anyone would not be an effective solution to address
this
problem. It is crucial for
governments
to provide equal job opportunities for everyone, particularly for poor
people
, to eradicate extreme
poverty
.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
