New Technologies change the way children spend their free time. Do the advantages of these changes outweigh the disadvantages?
Recent technologies alter the
way
kids utilize their spare time
. Personally, I believe that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. This
essay outlines why this
bears more consequences as a result
of technological advancement which leads to reduced bonding time
for families
and poor academic performances.
First
and foremost, the new features that come with technological advancements mean that children
spend more time
on their gadgets than on strengthening their bond with their families
. In other words
, a child will be more absorbed in the use of his phone or video game at a time
he is supposed to be relating with his family and friends. For example
, instead
of talking out problems with their families
, young people use that time
trying to win a difficult level in their game. This
in itself is something that never occurred a few years back when kids used to spend their free time
with their families
playing board games. This
shows why disadvantages are more than advantages.
Secondly
, rather than spending their free time
attending to their academic work, young ones now spend it online trying to chat with their friends from distant places. To put this
in perspective, the resurgence of social media has resulted in children
spending all their spare time
on this
media platform rather than on doing their homework or improving their grades at school. Take, for instance
, in a survey conducted on reasons why most children
's academic performance were poor, it was determined that this
was due to the fact that a majority of them spent all or most of their free time
online rather than studying. This
is a major influence that occurs when new technology alters the way
young stars spend their spare time
.
By way
of conclusion, I reaffirm my stance that new technology has brought more negatives than positives in the way
children
use their free time
in that it robs them of the opportunities to bond with their families
and further
dampens their performance at school. The disadvantages really outweigh any good that may be derived from this
