Plastic bags, plastic bottles and plastic packaging are bad for the environment. What damage does plastic do to the environment? What can be done by governments and individuals to solve this problem?

The damage that has been done to the
environment
by using
plastic
products
is irreversible. It affects every aspect of the
environment
, from animals' habitats to the health of different species.
Although
we are in a critical situation, some measures can still be taken to help the
environment
.
Plastic
products
have greatly disturbed the ecosystems of planet Earth. Discarding
plastic
items
in the oceans and jungles has damaged the
environment
. An octopus has been seen living in a
plastic
cup because it had mistaken the cup for a shell.
This
is not only harmful to the animal's habitat, but it is
also
dangerous for the animals themselves. With animals living in
such
conditions, microplastics are now a threat to their health as well. Microplastics have been found in fish's blood in a recent study. If
this
continues, the whole ecosystem could be in danger.
This
is a dangerous matter.
However
, governments and individuals can play an essential role in preventing a disaster from happening. Governments can help by banning single-use
plastic
items
, which would lead to less
plastic
pollution and eventually to zero
plastic
being produced. Individuals can participate in solving
this
problem by using longer-lasting
items
instead
of
plastic
products
. Taking a steel water bottle to work or using a regular bag
instead
of
plastic
bags can be extremely helpful. By doing so, fewer
plastic
products
will be used, and the
environment
will slowly be able to restore itself.
Plastic
products
have become an inseparable part of our lives and have damaged the
environment
. Both governments' and individuals' immediate actions are required to address
this
issue. By taking a step toward using fewer
plastic
items
or altogether banning them, we can be hopeful that the
environment
will someday be
plastic
-free.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
