Some argue that having a large sum of
money
but less free
time
is a better proposition than having less
money
but having a lot of free
time
, while others feel the opposite. In
this
essay, I will discuss both views and illustrate the pros and cons of both. In my opinion, there should be a balance between the two,
although
I lean towards having more free
time
.
In
this
modern capitalist world,
money
is everything. While a bit unfortunate, without
money
it is almost impossible to survive.
Additionally
,
money
is a status symbol as
money
buys beautiful houses, nice cars, designer clothes and so on. Albeit sad, it is
also
a fact that healthy food items are generally more expensive than unhealthy fast foods. For any form of entertainment as well,
money
is required to some degree.
Thus
, most individuals seek to earn as much
money
as possible, hustling from dusk till dawn almost every day.
However
, in
this
quest for
money
, people often do not have any free
time
to themselves at all. Various studies have found that people who work longer hours are in general tired and unhappy, as they do not get enough rest, entertainment and the opportunity to spend quality
time
with friends and family.
This
raises a question, is there any point in earning so much if you cannot enjoy it ?
Another group of people feel that it is more important to have more free
time
and enjoy your life, rather than work all the
time
and earn more
money
. Having more free
time
allows one to actually spend their hard-earned
money
on things they can enjoy, rather than just buying superficial objects for the sake of social status and not being able to enjoy them ultimately. Having more free
time
allows one to travel more, spend
time
with friends and family more, enjoy their hobbies and in general lead a happier healthier life. I believe it is important to be happy, as most expensive objects cannot actually give us much happiness. Having said that,
this
topic is
also
subjective, as some might enjoy and be happy with their expensive purchases.
Thus
, in conclusion,
although
money
and free
time
both are extremely important to lead a good life, one must strike a balance between the two.
Moreover
,
this
point of balance is entirely subjective, as some might prefer making more
money
while others might prefer having more
time
to themselves. I personally feel that it is better to have more
time
but earn less
money
.
