Some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movies do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples

There are those who argue that some

films

are serious, it is purposely made for the audience to reflect on. Others,

however

, believe that other

films

’ primary goal is to please as well as entertain. To my way of thinking, there are both pros and cons to

this

view. In defence of the

first

argument, there are all kinds of reasons why I prefer

films

that require reflective thinking. In the

first

place, thought-provoking shows educate us in different ways. Some serious

films

are based on current issues to enhance our awareness skills by making us familiar with what is going on in the world and our region.

For instance

, a well-known Tibetan movie called Tarlo describes a nomad, who had to abandon his traditional herding lifestyle due to the outside pressure. He lost his grassland due to the government's non-grazing policy. It made me think about how our identity was constructed in the environment we live in. Not only that, but the signal of losing our traditional culture is alarming. Having said that,

also

reasons why

films

that have an entertainment purpose are equally important. For one thing, people do feel happy when they watch comedies. It makes people laugh, which reduces the level of stress. It distracts us from our problems. To name but one example of a comedy show called Wrong Missy, it contains a huge amount of humour language. It does not require any analytical thinking to understand it. Turning to my own experience, the way things are when it comes to

matter in my country, China, is very similar to those across the world over. My hometown of Shanghai is a classic case in point. Here, people like to watch comedies because it is a great way to release their stress. They have to work very long hours to keep their jobs. At the end of the day, I prefer thought-provoking shows over comedy shows. I found inspiring
