The rise of convenience foods has helped people keep up with speed of the modern lifestyle. What are the advantages of this trend? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Tertiary processed foods have been instrumental in helping people cope with the pace of
life
.
This
is beneficial as it saves them
time
and energy. In my opinion, I believe the drawbacks outweigh the merits because they are unhealthy and rich in
additives
and
preservatives
.
To begin
,
convenience
meals are beneficial to people in keeping up with the modern lifestyle as it saves
time
and effort.
For instance
, if
one
cooks from scratch, an individual often have to spend a long
time
in the kitchen preparing the meal.
Also
, it requires
one
effort by monitoring it to get the desired meal with the right flavour and taste.
However
, by using tertiary processed foods
instead
,
one
can just put it in the oven or microwave and the meal will be ready in just a few minutes and without unnecessary stress.
This
will
consequently
save
time
and energy and focus on other things
such
as work and schedule.
However
, there are a plethora of demerits attached to
convenience
food in an individual. The
first
disadvantage is that it is often unhealthy. Many of these processes food contain high amounts of salt and saturated fats, which is rather harmful to our body system,
such
as the cardiovascular system.
This
, if
one
relies on them too much, chances are that an individual may develop serious
health
conditions
such
as hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and might overall reduce the
life
expectancy.
This
could in the long run lead to a decrease in efficiency at work and
consequently
impair their adaptation to the modern lifestyle.
In addition
,
convenience
foods are rich in
additives
and
preservatives
, which could be harmful to
one
's
health
. While
additives
are good to enhance taste, appearance or other sensory qualities, they are considered to be rather unhealthy. Moreso,
preservatives
are
also
harmful to the
health
, though they help in the shelf
life
of the product.
Therefore
, their regular consumption may lead to different
health
conditions sooner or later and may shorten
one
's
life
expectancy. To conclude,
although
convenience
food has been helpful to keep up with the pace of
life
as it saves
time
and energy, it could
also
impair
one
's
health
as it is unhealthy and rich in
additives
and
preservatives
. Ultimately, I opine that the disadvantages outweigh the merits,
therefore
an individual should consider these to make an informed choice.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
