There is a problem with the road outside of your house. Write a letter to your local councillor. In your letter - Introduce yourself - Explain what the problem is - Tell the councillor what you would like to be done.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing
this
letter to bring your attention to the falling tree on the road right outside of my house. I also
would like you to fix this
problem as soon as you can.
My name is Rose Tran. I am currently residing at Unit 11, 35 Darling Street. I have been moving to the area and staying here for the last
three years. Since I came here, this
is the first
time I have noticed this
unexpectedly inconvenient issue.
There was a heavy storm slashing through our town last
two days as you are aware of. The rain run down like a cat and a dog, which caused a serious effect on the oldest pine tree on the pavement of Darling Street. Due to, I suppose, the rotten root, it could not withstand the strong winds, and then
fell, blocking the road, which has been now making all the vehicles unable to pass through.
The blocking timber has still been here, and I have seen no traffic officers coming to clear it. If it could have been removed yesterday, people would not have to find another road for travel. Therefore
, I hope you can send out some professionals to clean the tree away within today.
Thank you for having the time to read my letter and I look forward to your prompt action.
Yours faithfully,
Rose TranSubmitted by rosetran0508 on

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
