You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six-year-old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter explain why you would like the job give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ say how you would spend your free time while you are in Australia

Dear Sir/Madam,
This
letter is being written in response to your advert in the Child Care magazine for the requirement of a short-term babysitter. I would like to be considered for the position you are offering because I love being with little ones.
Although
I have never been to Australia, I have heard a lot about it and I do not want to miss
this
opportunity. At present, I am working with a German family in Canada taking care of their four-year-old child for the
last
year. Apart from being friendly and caring, I have a special connection with children which makes my job more enjoyable.
Therefore
, I am confident that I would be a suitable candidate for providing care to your child.
Moreover
, during my leisure time in Australia, I would like to utilise it in exploring the culture and different places of the country as I am fond of travelling and meeting new people. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours faithfully, Anjali Arora.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
