Write a letter to a teacher asking for a reference letter for a job and explain: – Why you have chosen him to write the reference letter – What kind of job you are applying for – Why you think you are suitable for this job
Dear Mr Jonson,
I hope you are doing well. I am currently applying for an engineering job in Matcori, and I am wondering if you could write a letter of recommendation on my behalf.
As my professor on basic programming, I believe you could effectively vouch for the programming and problem-solving skills that I have demonstrated during our time together.
I am applying to be one of Matcori's Associate Programmers, which has been my dream ever since I started coding. If hired, I will be coding using Java and some technologies I have never tried.
I know
this
job is for me, I got the skills they need, and I think I fit with the culture they have. Thus
, in preparation, I am reviewing all the things you have taught me, and I am also
learning the new technologies that they are currently using.
If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 080-1234-1234 or [email protected].
I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Kind Regards,

Structure your letter
A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:
- A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
- The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
- A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)
When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.
All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
