Computers are often argued to be the most important invention of the last hundred years. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

It is undeniably true that technology has been the leading driver of progress over the
last
century. While there have been many technological advances which neatly contributed to science and human evolution in general, I firmly advocate these new inventions would have not been able to appear without the existence of
computers
. There is ample evidence of how they have shaped the way we live, work, relate and evolve, particularly in modern societies. One could never imagine how many interactions people have with a computer-based system on a day-to-day basis. From the more patent activities
such
as working from home or watching Netflix, to less visible ones,
such
as how houses and buildings have been designed, safety measures have been enhanced in cars, or how pipeline systems are able to prevent any urbanized area from flooding.
Similarly
, another feature that needs to be pinpointed is the role
computers
have played in any and all orbital experiments in space, which allowed testing and
further
development of new materials, later applied to multiple industries,
such
as the chemical or textile industry.
As a result
, it is clear how
computers
have moulded and enhanced our world throughout the
last
century, being particularly acute over the
last
few decades, when another invention altered our lives, the internet.
Although
our lives might have been positively influenced by the wide array of new applications that the internet provides,
such
as better communications, social media, and online TV, none of
this
would have existed without the previous invention of
computers
. To put in
in other words
: how many inventions have been created with the help of the computer?
