The municipal corporation in the area where you live has decided to demolish a historical building to build a shopping center. Write a letter to the mayor of the corporation. In your letter: You have to explain why it is important to preserve the building suggest how the building can be used to benefit the local community.

Dear Sir, I am writing
this
letter to let you know that I am a resident of Mohan Nagar and
this
area has many historical monuments .
Last
week , you have given approval for the construction of a shopping centre. Which, is to be constructed on the land of Begum Mahal and for that remains of
this
historical building will be demolished by local authorities. It is my duty to let you know that locals are very disappointed with the decision taken by you because
this
historical place is an integral part of our culture and it is not justified to destroy it for the sake of the development of the city.
This
ancient site is two centuries old and is renowned for its architecture and tourists come from far places to visit it.
Instead
of removing
this
building for the shopping mall, you can allot some other land on the outskirts of the city. It would be a boon for the local community if you can come up with plans to make a few changes around
this
historical building in order to attract more visitors.
Firstly
, make provisions for some shops so that locals can earn their living by selling things.
Secondly
, the open space around Begum Mahal can be converted into a garden and a jogging track so that natives can use it.
Lastly
, making the parking lot near it would resolve traffic issues in
this
area. I hope you would consider these concerns of ours. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours Faithfully,

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
