Some people believe that it is more important to teach children the literature and history of their own country, rather than the literature and history of other countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There is an argument about the priority of teaching
children
the literature
and history of their own nations or others. To some extent, I believe that it is vital to have them learn about their own culture and literature
; however
, I also
accept the idea that they need to know the remarkable past and literature
of the world
.
Teaching children
the history and culture of their own countries leads to the development of their national identity. which means, they become aware of what their forefathers have done during the previous eras and they respect their achievements. This
knowledge makes them so proud of their own country and tries to keep that in their endeavour. For instance
, there are many national events and customs that people from all around the world
celebrate at a specific time such
as the annual celebration of liberty in India.
On the other hand
, by not having children
knowledgeable of other significant events of the world
, they are nurtured as narrow-minded. If they do not learn about such
remarkable events of the world
, they cannot flourish their interests and talents. For example
, a large number of children
in Canada are interested in watching Japanese programmes which means they are keen on learning about Asian cultures rather than their own. In the future, they might follow their instincts and immigrate to these countries for work or even living.
In summary, Although
it is essential to teach children
their own national culture, literature
, and history at the first
step, I agree with the idea that they need to apprise about other cultures in order to nurture them broad-minded to have wider options and choices for living in the future.Submitted by TUTOO on
