Today’s food travels thousands of miles before it reaches customers. Why is this? Is this a positive or negative trend?

Nowadays, international
food
travelling has become more popular than in the past. Thanks to the innovations of the transportation system, individuals now have the access to a plethora of kinds of
food
. In
this
essay, I will examine the reasons for
such
a phenomenon and explain why I consider that
this
is a negative trend despite there are a few merits. To embark on, with the introduction of the speedy transportation system and the latest development in technology,
crops
grown anywhere could be transported to other parts of the world whenever there are needs. An eminent example of
this
is people who live in the desert can still have a taste of coffee and rice cultivated by another country, even though they cannot produce them.
Also
, if a person works or lives in a foreign country, he might miss the
food
from his hometown, with the popularity of
food
travelling, those
crops
can be seen in the nearest market.
On the other hand
,
food
travelling has some severe disadvantages which makes it a dangerous trend. Fruit and vegetables coming from all over the world can have detrimental effects on local farmers.
For example
, some
crops
from Southeast Asia were cheaper,
hence
restaurants and supermarkets are more likely to import a large number of
crops
from Southeast Asia rather than buying them from local farms.
Furthermore
, the transportation of
food
requires burning more fossil fuels, and
this
is detrimental to the environment because of the emissions of carbon dioxide. Just to supply internationally grown
crops
, we are degrading our environment. In conclusion, it seems to me that the potential dangers of
food
travelling are more significant than the possible benefits.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
