An increasing number of schools provide tablets and laptop computers for students to use in school, replacing books and other printed materials like exams and assigments. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

As a result
of the modern world, schools changing out all paper-based materials
such
as books, exams and assignments by giving the students laptops.
This
essay will argue that, despite the health issues related to spending too many hours in front of computers, the environmental and economical aspects will triumph over the mentioned disadvantage. Pupils spend at least half of their day at school learning new things with the use of technological items like computers, laptops and tablets. Coming home from school will involve
further
use of mobile phones or tablets to watch videos, play games or go on social media like Facebook and Tik Tok. Unless parents control the child´s access to those devices, excessive screen time on a daily basis can lead to serious eye problems, especially among the youngest ones.
For instance
, parents can at least two to three days a week encourage children to play outside, to limit screen usage after school time. The positive side of
this
trend is that humans can now be more conscious about the environment. Learning institutions going paperless will make it easier to protect the earth from deforestation and increasing waste. Because, it will take a significant amount of trees to meet the demand for papers used for teaching purposes in a country like The UK, and on top of that, printed materials will cause even more trash to recycle. Another aspect of
this
is that all learners here will gain access to the same type of devices, which diminishes the social differences between the children without putting financial strain on the caregivers.
For example
, a student who befriends someone from a higher social class may pressure the parents to provide devices with similar value, which can be too expensive. In conclusion, unlimited exposure to screen usage has a negative impact on the eyesight of young users.
However
, I believe that the benefits of paperless teaching will protect the earth considerably,
in addition
to minimising the effect of social differences between the pupils.
